21 were baptised today.

renouncing the world; swearing allegiance to the lord.

i, too, did that many moons ago.

while observing, i pondered anew what this downpour of water signified.

obviously, there was no magic power to be found in the water.

obviously, we knew in our minds what we were committing to.

but some things are clearly not so obvious, especially with the benefit of hindsight.

several years removed from my baptism date, some people who were with me on that day no longer are.

goes to show that confessing our commitment is one thing; yet, living with commitment is a whole other thing.

that’s not to say i am proud of my “achievement” – if anything, i thank God for his continued patience and grace towards me. but take heed lest you fall, there is no power in a baptism of water if your heart has not yet been baptised with conviction by the holy spirit.

for the newborn-agains who were baptised today, i pray that you will continue working out your salvation with the right kind fear and trembling before our holy lord.

the road ahead is anything but easy, but the church will be with you, so long as you are with the lord.

let’s press on, brothers and sisters.
